121: Jesus Appears To His Disciples At The Seashore
John 21:1-14
Jesus Appears To His Disciples At The Seashore
Some time later several of the disciples–including Simon Peter, Thomas (called Didymus), Nathanael of Cana in Galilee, James and John (the sons of Zebedee), and two others–were at the Sea of Galilee. Simon Peter said:
“I go a-fishing.”
The others said to Peter:
“We also go with thee.”
They entered into a ship, went out from the shore, but caught nothing that night. In the morning Jesus stood on the shore, but the disciples did not recognize him. He said to them:
“Children, have ye any meat?”
They answered:
“No.”
Jesus said:
“Cast the net on the right side of the ship, and ye shall find.”
They cast as directed and were unable to draw in the net, because so many fish were in it.
Thereupon one of the disciples said to Peter:
“It is the Lord.”
Simon Peter, who was naked, put on his fishing coat and cast himself into the sea. The other disciples came to shore in a little boat, pulling the net, filled with fish, behind them.
When they reached the shore, they saw a fire of coals with fish and bread already laid thereon. Jesus said to them:
“Bring of the fish which ye have now caught.”
Simon Peter pulled the net on shore and, though it contained one hundred and fifty-three fish, still it had not broken. Jesus said:
“Come and dine.”
None of the disciples asked who he was. They knew it was the Lord. Then Jesus and the disciples ate the fish and bread.
