The disciples forgot to take food with them. There was only one loaf in the ship. Jesus said to them: “Take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees.” His disciples reasoned the meaning of this among themselves, thinking: “It is because we have taken no bread.” Jesus knew what they were thinking and said: “Why reason ye because ye have no bread? Previous   Matthew 15:39, 16:1-4; Mark 8:10-12 Jesus Again Refuses To Give A Sign To The Pharisees And Sadducees Immediately after he had fed the four thousand, Jesus and his disciples went by boat to another part of the country. The Pharisees and Sadducees came and tempted Jesus, asking him to show a sign from Heaven as evidence of his authority. Jesus refused them, saying: “When it is evening, ye say, ‘It will be fair weather: for the sky is red.’ And in the morning, ‘It will be foul weather today: for the sky is red and lowering.’ O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the signs of the times? A wicked and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given unto it, but the sign of the prophet Jonah.” Then Jesus immediately left them. Next

Previous Matthew 15:32-38; Mark 8:1-9 Jesus Feeds Four Thousand Jesus called his disciples to him and said: “I have compassion on the multitude, because they continue with me now three days, and have nothing to eat; and I will not send them away fasting, lest they faint in the way.” Many in the multitude of more than four thousand had come far. His disciples replied: “Whence should we have so much bread in the wilderness, as to fill so great a multitude?” Jesus asked: “How many loaves have ye?” The disciples answered: “Seven, and a few little fishes.” Then Jesus commanded the multitude to sit on the ground. He took the loaves and the fishes, gave thanks, and broke them. He handed them to his disciples, who passed them to all who were there. When all had eaten and were filled, the remaining fragments were gathered together and filled seven baskets.  Then Jesus sent the multitude away. Next

Previous Matthew 15:29-31; Mark 7:31-37 Jesus Heals A Deaf-And-Dumb Man Jesus left the coastal regions of Tyre and Sidon, where he had driven the unclean spirit from the daughter of the Greek woman, and crossed the Sea of Galilee to the coasts of Decapolis.  A deaf man, who also had an impediment in his speech, was brought before Jesus, who was asked to put his hand upon the man. Jesus took the man to one side, put his fingers into his ears, and touched his tongue. Looking up to heaven, Jesus said: “Be opened.” Immediately the ears of the man opened, the impediment in his speech was removed, and he could hear and speak plainly. Jesus ordered them to tell no one how he was cured. But as in other instances when charged not to publish the great healing works of Jesus, they spread the word widely. All men were astonished beyond measure and said: “He hath done all things well. He maketh both the deaf to hear, and the dumb to speak.” Next

Previous Matthew 5:21-28; Mark 7:24-30 Jesus Heals the Daughter of a Canaanitish Woman After Jesus had defended his disciples because they ate bread with unwashed hands, he went into the coastal regions of Tyre and Sidon, hoping to escape from the crowds. However, his presence could not be hidden for long. A Greek woman, native of Syro-Phoenicia, whose little daughter had an unclean spirit, heard of him.
