Jesus Heals A Deaf-And-Dumb Man

Jesus left the coastal regions of Tyre and Sidon, where he had driven the unclean spirit from the daughter of the Greek woman, and crossed the Sea of Galilee to the coasts of Decapolis.

A deaf man, who also had an impediment in his speech, was brought before Jesus, who was asked to put his hand upon the man.

Jesus took the man to one side, put his fingers into his ears, and touched his tongue. Looking up to heaven, Jesus said:

“Be opened.”

Immediately the ears of the man opened, the impediment in his speech was removed, and he could hear and speak plainly.

Jesus ordered them to tell no one how he was cured. But as in other instances when charged not to publish the great healing works of Jesus, they spread the word widely.

All men were astonished beyond measure and said:

“He hath done all things well. He maketh both the deaf to hear, and the dumb to speak.”
